Frequently Asked Questions

How do shooting scores work?

Each of Atmos's 15 photography genres is scored from 0 to 100 on an hour-by-hour basis. The score is computed by blending the weather inputs that matter most for that specific genre — for example, Milky Way weighs moon phase, darkness, Bortle class, and cloud cover, while Golden Hour weighs cloud height, atmospheric haze, and solar angle. The "Best window" shown on each card highlights the consecutive block of hours with the strongest combined score.

Why does Atmos need my location?

Forecasts are hyperlocal by design. Your GPS coordinates are used to fetch weather, cloud cover, satellite imagery, aurora activity, tide levels, and air-quality data from third-party APIs in real time. Your coordinates are sent directly from your device over HTTPS and are never stored on our servers. You can revoke location permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Atmos.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Atmos on your iPhone, then tap "Cancel Subscription." Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep access until then. All billing is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.

How do I restore a purchase on a new device?

Open Atmos, navigate to the paywall or settings screen, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID that originally purchased the subscription and your access will be restored automatically.

A forecast looks wrong for my location

Forecast data is sourced from third-party providers (NOAA, Pirate Weather, Open-Meteo) and is inherently uncertain, especially at hyperlocal scales. Pull down on any screen to force a fresh data fetch. If a specific genre's score seems consistently off in your area, email us with your approximate location and the genre name — we'll look into the underlying data signals.

The app crashes or won't load

Try these steps in order: (1) Pull down to refresh, (2) close and reopen the app, (3) confirm that location permissions are set to "While Using the App," (4) delete and reinstall the app. If the issue persists, please email us with your iPhone model and iOS version.

How do I request a refund?

Subscription refunds are handled directly by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple ID used for the purchase, and select the Atmos subscription to request a refund.
